We help many overseas qualified supply teachers gain valuable UK teaching experience

LOOKING FOR SUPPLY TEACHING WORK IN THE UK?

Tap Teachers have worked with many teachers who have gained their qualification outside the UK. If you are an overseas qualified teacher looking for supply teaching work in the UK you will need to meet the criterea specified below in order to register with Tap Teachers.

PLEASE NOTE: You will need at least three months UK teaching experience in order to register as a supply teacher with Tap Teachers.

What will you need?

  • You must be recognised as a qualified teacher in your home country so you need to bring original certificates. Before you can register with Tap Teachers, you will need to contact UK NARIC (0870 9904088), who compare your qualifications to UK standards.
  • You must have a valid proof of identity. At Tap Teachers we need to see your passport.
  • You need to hold a valid work permit or visa that entitles you to live and work in the UK. You will need to show proof of this when registering.
  • You must provide proof of criminal clearance from your home country from within the last 3 years.
  • You must provide details of 2 valid references from schools where you have taught. We need the name of contact, school name and address and we’ll go from there.
  • You must possess an excellent command of spoken and written English.

It is essential to bring original or certified copies of all the originals of above documents to the UK.

Gaining QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)

Fully qualified teachers from overseas can teach in England for up to 4 years before they are required to gain QTS. We do however recommend undertaking some training to gain a better insight into the National Curriculum.

If you intend to remain supply teaching in the UK or wish to find a permanent placement then we highly recommend beginning an OTT course to gain QTS. For additional information on what is involved in QTS assessment contact the Department for Children, Schools and Familes at www.dcsf.gov.uk.
