RETURNING TO SUPPLY TEACHING AFTER A BREAK?

Whether you have been out of the teaching profession to experience a different career or for family reasons, it can be tough to get back into the classroom. That’s why our trained consultants are here to help you get back into the swing of things!

Tap Teachers want to ease your route back into supply teaching.  If you have taught in the past, have worked in a different field and want to return to supply teaching, you may find some of the below information useful.

First steps

Remind yourself what being a teacher involves – especially if it’s a while since you last taught. Is your qualification still valid? If you have qualified teacher status (QTS) with a DCSF number, your qualification should be valid. If you’re not sure, contact the General Teaching Council on 0870 001 0308.

If you have been out of the profession for 10 years, we advise that you take a return to teaching course which is explained below.

Get some experience

Upon registering with Tap Teachers we will map out a short, medium and long-term plan with you that you are entirely comfortable with.

We will ease you back into the supply teaching fray and constantly consult with you to ensure that you achieve your career goals.

Get on a course

Think about going on a returning to teaching course. These short courses are available all across the country. A course will help you get up to date with all the latest developments in schools, brush up your skills and boost your confidence.

For more information, visit the Training and Development agency for schools (tda):

Courses last between six and 12 weeks. You are eligible for a place if you have been out of teaching/profession for 12 months. The course covers the national curriculum, key national strategies, pupil assessment and behaviour management. A supported school placement is also included. The placement will give you an opportunity to experience teaching again at first hand, and to talk in depth to teachers.
